Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS)
The Organization of African, Caribbean, and Pacific States (OACPS), formerly known as African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP), represents countries across Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific. Established by the Georgetown Agreement in 1975, the Organization is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium and works to promote sustainable development and deepen economic cooperation, particularly with the European Union.
His Excellency Moussa Saleh Batraki of Chad currently serves as Secretary-General of the OACPS.
The Maldives became a full member of the OACPS on 9 December 2022. Since then, the Maldives has been actively engaging with the Organization, including participation in its meetings such as the biannual Council of Ministers, while taking forward the necessary steps to accede to its agreements.
On 1 July 2024, the Maldives signed the “Partnership Agreement between the European Union (EU) and its Member States, of the one part, and the Members of the Organization of the African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), of the other part”, commonly referred to as the “Samoa Agreement” in Brussels, Belgium. At the time of signature, the Maldives also submitted declarations and reservations to specific articles of the Agreement.
