The Foreign Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Dr. Khalilur Rahman, participated at the Tree-Planting Ceremony held at the Lonuziyaaraiy Park, today. The Ceremony was part of the programme of his Official Visit to the Maldives, to attend the celebrations marking the 61st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Maldives.
During the Ceremony, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman presented 10 saplings to the Government of Maldives, as a gesture of friendship and goodwill. In his remarks, Foreign Minister of Bangladesh announced that the Government of Bangladesh contributes 20,000 additional saplings in support of the Maldives’ Five Million Tree Programme. The contribution reflects the growing cooperation between the two countries in promoting environmental conservation and collective efforts to address the impacts of climate change.
Speaking at the ceremony, both Minister of Foreign Affairs, Her Excellency Iruthisham Adam and the Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy, His Excellency Ali Shareef highlighted the significance of the Five Million Tree Programme inaugurated by President His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, on 5 June 2025 at Lonuziyaaraiy Park, to enhance climate resilience, biodiversity and environmental sustainability.
Foreign Minister Iruthisham and Minister Ali Shareef expressed their sincere appreciation to Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman and the Government of Bangladesh for the generous contribution, noting that it reflects the enduring relationship between the two countries and their shared commitment to advancing climate action through practical cooperation and sustainable partnerships.
The Ceremony reaffirmed the enduring partnership between the Maldives and Bangladesh and underscored the shared commitment of both countries to advancing cooperation on environmental protection, climate resilience, and sustainable development for the benefit of future generations.
