Foreign Minister meets with the Governor of Yunnan Province of the People’s Republic of China

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Iruthisham Adam today met with the Governor of Yunnan Province, Wang Yubo.

During the meeting, Minister Iruthisham expressed her appreciation for the invitation to visit Kunming to attend the 7th China–South Asia Cooperation Forum and the 10th China–South Asia Expo. Noting that this was her first official visit to China since assuming office as Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Minister Iruthisham reaffirmed the high importance the Maldives attaches to its longstanding relationship with China. She further underscored President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s commitment to deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership between the two countries and advancing bilateral cooperation across a wide range of areas.

Foreign Minister Iruthisham further underscored the close ties between the Maldives and Yunnan Province, and welcomed the growing cooperation between the two sides. She noted with appreciation the regular exchange of high-level visits and the support provided by Yunnan Province in areas including education and sports. The Minister also thanked Governor Wang for Yunnan Province’s continued friendship and valuable contributions to the socio-economic development of the Maldives. She also mentioned that the Maldives will look forward to future engagements on bilateral cooperation, to visit Kunming again.

The Minister was accompanied to the meeting by Ambassador of Maldives to the People’s Republic of China, Dr. Fazeel Najeeb, Additional Secretary Amin Javed Faizal, Director Maryam Bassama Farooq at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mizna Waheed, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Maldives in China.
