Foreign Minister of Bangladesh concludes Official Visit to the Maldives

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Dr. Khalilur Rahman, departed this morning, upon conclusion of his official visit to attend the events marking the 61st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Maldives. 

Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman visited the Maldives as the Special Guest of the Government of Maldives, to attend the Independence Day celebrations.  The visit marked the first official visit to the Maldives since assuming office on 17 February 2026, which provided an opportunity to renewed impetus for expanding cooperation across areas of mutual interest.

During the visit, His Excellency Dr. Khalilur Rahman paid a courtesy call on the President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, and held productive discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Her Excellency Iruthisham Adam. Their discussions reaffirmed the longstanding friendly relation between the Maldives and Bangladesh and focused on further strengthening cooperation across a wide range of sectors, including health, education, agriculture, connectivity, tourism, labour, trade and investment, human resource development, and people-to-people exchanges.  The Ministers also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest and reaffirmed their shared commitment for enhancing cooperation in multilateral fora.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman also attended the Diplomatic Outreach event hosted by Her Excellency Iruthisham Adam, and the celebrations marking the 61st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Maldives, as well as the Independence Day parade held at the Republic Square. 

Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman also joined Foreign Minister Iruthisham and Environment Minister Ali Shareef, to plant trees at a ceremony held at the Lonuziyaaraiy Park contributing to the Five Million Trees Programme launched by President His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.  The ceremony underscored the shared commitment of the Maldives and Bangladesh to environmental sustainability, climate action, and a greener future.

Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman was seen off at the Velana International Airport by His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
