The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Her Excellency Iruthisham Adam, met with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of Bangladesh, His Excellency Dr. Khalilur Rahman, today.
During the meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Her Excellency Iruthisham welcomed Foreign Minister His Excellency Dr. Khalilur Rahman to the Maldives and expressed appreciation for attending the celebrations marking the 61st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Maldives, as the Special Guest of the Government of Maldives.
Both Ministers reaffirmed the longstanding friendship between the Maldives and Bangladesh, underscoring the strong people-to-people ties and close cooperation that have served as the foundation of the bilateral relationship over the years.
Both Ministers also reviewed the existing bilateral cooperation and discussed opportunities to further strengthen collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including health, education, trade and investment, tourism, labour and human resource development, and cooperation in regional and multilateral fora. The dignitaries also exchanged views on regional and international developments, and reaffirmed their shared commitment to further enhance cooperation in support of the mutual interests and prosperity of both countries.
During the meeting, Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman announced that the Government of Bangladesh would present a gift of 300 kilograms of Khirsapat (Kh) mangoes to the Government of Maldives and donate 20,000 saplings to support the Maldives’ Five Million Tree Programme, as a symbol of the enduring friendship and close partnership between the two countries.
Foreign Minister Iruthisham expressed appreciation for the kind gesture and noted that the visit held in conjunction with the 61st Anniversary of the Independence of the Maldives, reflects the enduring partnership between two countries and provides renewed momentum for expanding bilateral engagement. Both Ministers expressed confidence that the outcome of the visit would contribute to elevate the close and friendly relations, and advancing a forward-looking partnership for the mutual benefit of the peoples of both countries.
Foreign Minister Her Excellency Iruthisham was accompanied at the meeting by Foreign Secretary, Her Excellency Fathimath Inaya, Secretary, Her Excellency Aminath Shabeena, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Fahmy Hassan, Additional Secretary, Ms Aminath Abdulla Didi, Joint Secretary, Mariyam Midhfa Naeem, and Political Director, Mr. Mohamed Azkan Ashraf.
