Minister of Foreign Affairs Iruthisham Adam has departed Kunming, Yunnan Province today, following the conclusion of a successful official visit to the People’s Republic of China.
During the visit, Minister Iruthisham attended the Opening Ceremony of the 7th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum and the 10th China-South Asia Expo, delivering the keynote address at the Forum.
In her address, Minister Iruthisham reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to working closely with China and regional partners to strengthen cooperation, foster mutual understanding, and contribute to peace, stability in the South Asia region.
Minister Iruthisham also attended the Opening Ceremony of the 10th China-South Asia Expo and toured the exhibition, including visiting stalls operated by Maldivian vendors participating in this year’s Expo.
During the visit, Minister Iruthisham met with the Governor of Yunnan Province, Wang Yubo. The discussions focused on the close ties between the Maldives and Yunnan Province, as well as opportunities to further expand cooperation in areas such as education, sports and people-to-people exchanges. The Minister expressed appreciation for the continued friendship and support extended by Yunnan Province towards the socio-economic development of the Maldives.

As part of the visit, the Foreign Minister visited Yunnan University and met with Maldivian students pursuing their studies in Kunming, as well as Maldivian professionals based in the Province. She commended the students for their academic achievements and encouraged them to contribute towards the future development of the Maldives.
During the visit, Minister Iruthisham was accompanied by Ambassador of Maldives to the People’s Republic of China, Dr. Fazeel Najeeb, Additional Secretary Amin Javed Faizal, Director Maryam Bassama Farooq at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Mizna Waheed, Second Secretary at the Embassy of Maldives in China.
