The newly appointed Non-Resident Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan to the Republic of Maldives, Her Excellency Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee, paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Maldives, Her Excellency Iruthisham Adam, this morning.
The meeting took place following the presentation of the Letters of Credence by Ambassador Dorjee to the President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, at a ceremony held at the President’s Office.
During the meeting held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Minister Iruthisham warmly welcomed Ambassador Dorjee and extended congratulations on her accreditation as the Non-Resident Ambassador of Bhutan to the Maldives, based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
Minister Iruthisham highlighted the longstanding bonds of friendship between the Maldives and Bhutan, and underscored the importance of maintaining regular high-level exchanges to further strengthen bilateral relations. The discussions mainly focused on matters of mutual interest, with particular emphasis on strengthening development cooperation through capacity building, technical exchanges, and the sharing of best practices in areas such as climate resilience, sustainable tourism, agriculture, digital transformation, and human resource development. The two sides also discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation and promote greater people-to-people exchanges.
Minister Iruthisham and Ambassador Dorjee recalled the longstanding cooperation between the two countries in regional and multilateral fora, and reaffirmed their commitment to advance shared priorities and explore new avenues of cooperation for mutual benefit.
Minister Iruthisham was accompanied at the meeting by Foreign Secretary, Her Excellency Fathimath Inaya, Secretary, Her Excellency Aminath Shabeena, Additional Secretary Aminath Abdulla Didi, and Senior Political Director, Al-Usthaz Abdulla Thiklam Fazeen.
